about

Oh boy you guys- we made it! And before noon on the first too! Who saw that coming?! Not me, that's for sure.
-----CONTENT WARNING AHEAD- SUICIDAL THOUGHTS AND DEPRESSION (IT'S FOR A GOOD REASON THOUGH, I SWEAR)-----
This is a simple little song I started a couple weeks ago, and it's about what is probably the hardest part of my life. About 3 years ago, my depression got so bad that I kinda lost the ability to do.... anything. Sure, I still went to work, but I was mean and behind on everything, barely eating, and couldn't be alone for more than about 10 minutes without feeling like my death was imminent and my life was pointless anyways. I lost the ability to listen to music, let alone make it, and every week was a challenge just to not lose my mind or do something horrible. Eventually, I started going to therapy, and now all of that is much less of an issue. But, some days it can be hard to see your own progress, especially if that progress is "3 years and you're not quite as strong as you used to be". BUT- you're better than you were at your lowest, and that's important to remember, and that it will keep getting better if you keep working on it, even if it's painfully slow.
Musically, this is a mess that happened backwards for me: I wrote lyrics and melody first, then filled in the arrangement after the fact. I wasn't sure where to go with it, but I ended up going for a late 90's kinda inspiration-swing feel, because the song feels a little cheesy (I still am not great at honest but not tacky... oh well).
And that's it, y'all.... RPM and Groove of the Day! Talk to me, about whatever, whenever- JusticeEatsTrees@gmail.com Thanks for listening.

lyrics

If the pink light of the morning doesn't make you have to puke,
If the humming isn't roaring- isn't murder in some suit-
made of waiting, made of knowing, made of your own helpless skin-
breathing deeply, always drying... always trying to suck you in

Then you know you're somewhere- something!- different than the wreck of three years ago,
It may not feel good (no, not ok yet)- it may hurt to feel so slow

But you just gotta look,
gotta feel that strange glowing hue
And know that it's turning something new
